Together with customs brokers we analyse the product's composition, function and intended use, identify the correct TARIC code and prepare documents, registrations and formalities.
Customs clearance is prepared before departure. With the customs broker we gather the invoice, packing list, transport documents, origin, technical description, composition and intended use. Classification in the Combined Nomenclature and TARIC determines the applicable duty and non-tariff measures and must match the objective characteristics of the product.
The European Commission's TARIC database integrates rates, preferences, quotas, anti-dumping measures, restrictions and other trade-policy tools. The analysis also considers customs value and preferential or non-preferential origin. When classification is complex it may be advisable to consider a Binding Tariff Information, instead of using generic commercial descriptions.
We also verify registrations and requirements linked to the product category. For cosmetic products notification in the European CPNP portal may be required; for articles subject to CE marking a conformity assessment and correct documentation are needed; for substances and articles REACH obligations may apply. The European Commission's Access2Markets portal helps check requirements, duties and documents for specific trade routes.
Anti-dumping measures, sanctions and dual-use controls can change the cost or feasibility of a supply. We monitor these factors before confirming production and transport, avoiding basing the decision only on the supplier's country or the purchase price.
